This has been a very exciting and hard week for Elder McSheehy. He said he had so much fun throughout the week prior to leaving Reno but it was hard to leave. He was able to go to the Temple before he left Reno. He really enjoyed that experience. His district was able to go together. Elder McSheehy has definitely made some eternal friends as he served in Reno. In the picture Elder McSheehy is with Elder Monson, Elder Fordham, Elder Swaney, Sister Grigs, and Sister Tibbs. (I think I got their names correct) He said that he will truly miss this group of awesome missionaries.
Elder McSheehy was able to visit "Shoe Tree" prior to leaving Reno. I don't know the whole story behind this very interesting tree but he was able to donate to the scenery. Elder McSheehy sent me some video of him and Elder Fordham trying to get their shoes to hang from the tree. It was quite funny to say the least.
Some of you might understand this missionary tradition much better then myself. I guess every 6 months the Elders get together to build a small fire to burn a piece of their "uniform" Elder McSheehy did hit his 6 month mark this past week and participated in the ceremony. He burned one of his ties. His very close friend Elder Carvajal burned an entire suit as he departs the mission field after completing his 2 year mission.
I think one of the most difficult parts of the week for Elder McSheehy was saying goodbye to Elder Carvajal. He is the Elder in the middle of this picture. They grew to be very close friends over the past 12 weeks helping each other as they served the people of Reno. Elder Carvajal completed his 2 year mission and was released from his assignment to return home. I have to admit, I will miss him too. We were blessed to meet Elder Carvajal on our Christmas Skype call and I would get random videos from him as well in the mail. What an awesome guy! I am so proud of him for all of the hard work and sacrifice that he made to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I''m sure over those 2 years he has blessed numerous lives with his joy, laughter, and testimony of Jesus Christ.
I read a quote the other day that I think Elder McSheehy would enjoy and agree with - "Companions for a time... Friends for life... Brothers for Eternity"
